Empowering women through computer science and soft skills
Do you enjoy teaching and want to share your skills in order to contribute to women’s empowerment? We are looking for participants with either a background in computer sciences and web design, or in the humanities. In this project you would support female students of computer science in advancing their computer and employment skills.
The international organisation Don Bosco College runs facilities in a total of 132 countries – including India, where it operates 32 centres of higher education. One of them is the college in Angadikadavu, Kerala in southern India, the campus of which has over 1000 students and 60 faculty members. The interns will work with the students, doing post graduate studies in computer science. The organisation aims to support young people by providing them with academic competence, spiritual maturity, and social consciousness. Most of the college’s students are women from rural areas – the intention of the internship is to especially support and empower these female students. The computer science section has ten employees.
As GLEN participants you would work with the college’s female students and support them in further developing their job acquisition skills, as well as their computer skills. Depending on your background you would focus on different tasks: If you have a background in computer science, you would teach skills like blogging and web design or support the students in doing research, studying, publishing papers, presenting or organizing workshops in the field of computer science. If you have a background in the humanities, you would support the students in developing communication skills or train them in successfully interviewing or engaging in group discussions. As GLEN participants you would collaborate with a local intern to perform these tasks.
The scheduled time for the internship is three months between 1 September and 30 November 2018.
