Empowering youth through computer skills training

Are you IT and tech savvy? Do you enjoy working with young people? For this project, we are looking for three participants who are passionate about working with teenagers and have a background in computer sciences. To participate you should be competent in graphic and web design and have teaching experience. Moreover, you need to have strong communication skills and be fluent in English.

The Service Awareness Support Organization (SASO) strives to provide formal and informal education to less privileged communities and, in particular, to young people. To provide youth with skills for employment the SASO runs a training and outreach centre offering courses in hairdressing, as well as beads and fabric making. The SASO is based in Dansoman, a suburb of Greater Accra, located very near to Ghana’s capital of Accra. The SASO’s nine permanent staff members also address the health, financial, and social concerns of community members. To strengthen its programme in skills for employment, SASO plans to develop a computer skills training programme that targets youth.

As a GLEN participant, you would support SASO staff members in developing a new computer skills training programme. You would engage in designing IT sessions for young people and support the teaching activities of this newly developed course. Moreover, you would share your expertise in computer sciences with SASO staff members and tutor less privileged youth to further develop their skills and competencies in areas required in a professional environment. GLEN participants will also have the opportunity to participate in courses offered by the SASO and learn, for example, how to make local fabrics.

The scheduled time for the internship is between August and October 2018.

Trainings and seminars prior to the internship will be held in English.

The GLEN team will be comprised of one German participant and one Hungarian participant.
