Developing a visitor centre for a landscape park

Are you interested in nature conservation and keen to explore best practices in environmental education? For this project you would further develop a visitor centre within a landscape park of geological, historical, and aesthetic significance. To join out team you should have a background in building construction and landscape architecture, area planning, tourism or media communication. In addition, you should feel confident organising workshops and conferences and have strong skills in drawing software such as InDesign or Coreldraw. Very good English language skills are also essential. Additional language skills in Ukrainian, Russian and/or Polish would be an asset.

The Znesinnya Regional Landscape Park is located in the centre of Lviv, a city in Western Ukraine. It is supported by the non-governmental Znesinnya Regional Foundation (RFZ), which is responsible for the protection, preservation, and development of the historical park. With support from 21 park staff members, the park is a space for recreation, tourism and education. Moreover, at 312 hectares, the park is home to about 5,000 residents who live inside Znesinnya Park. Since the city of Lviv was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, local initiatives in tourism, culture, and science have expanded. However, despite local growing environmental consciousness, current city planning threatens the future of the park. To ensure its continued existence, RFZ aims to promote Znesinnya Park by further developing its multifunctional visitor centre.

As GLEN participants you would support park administration and RFZ in promoting Znesinnya Park among Lviv citizens, school children, and tourists. In order to attract more visitors and ensure sustainable use of the park, you would assist RFZ in turning the visitor centre into a public space with a library and a museum about the park and green cities. In addition, you would engage in establishing classroom and school trip accommodations, turning the visitor centre of Znesinnya Park into an exciting place for practical environmental education and recreation.

The scheduled time for the internship is three months between August and October 2018.

Trainings and seminars prior to the internship will be held in English.
