Empowering young people through business skills development

Are you creative and business-minded? Then you should read this project description. For this project, we are looking for two participants who are keen to work with young people and have some experience in the field of civil society development. Ideally, you have strong research skills and knowledge of fundraising and writing grant proposals. In addition, you should have very good English skills; Russian language skills would be an asset.

The host organisation, Uluchay Social Economic Innovation Center, was founded in 1995 and strives to support the socio-economic development of Azerbaijan’s rural regions. The non-profit organisation currently has six full-time staff members and is based in the city of Sheki in northwestern Azerbaijan. Uluchay’s main programme areas are civil society development, economic development, youth empowerment, social issues, European integration, gender equality, and public sector reform. To achieve its aims, Uluchay operates through two primary branches: its programme development and implementation branches and its policy research branches. One of Uluchay’s ongoing projects provides legal aid to prisoners and supports their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. Through this project, Uluchay works towards advancing the socio-economic rights of vulnerable populations. By providing business training and mentoring to start-up businesses initiated by youth and women from six districts in the Sheki-Zaqatala Economic Region, Uluchay contributes to creating conditions for balanced and sustainable economic development across all regions of Azerbaijan.

As GLEN participant, you would be involved in Uluchay’s daily activities. You would support the organisation in fundraising by writing proposals and coordinating with donors. You would contribute new ideas to the design of projects and assist in the documentation of Uluchay’s success stories. In collaboration with staff you would draft press releases and provide assistance to the policy research unit.

The scheduled time for the internship is flexible, between August and November 2018.

Training and seminars prior to the internship will be held in English.

The GLEN team will be comprised of one German participant and one Slovene participant.
