Young climate ambassadors: supporting eco-education at schools for a sustainable society and environment

GLEN combines mutual learning in the Global North and Global South with inner-European exchange. European tandems from Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia as well as Germany form the project teams during a three-month internship in the Global South. They also visit three seminars together, where English is the working language. These experiences of peer-to-peer learning and a change of perspective are the foundation for GLEN participant’s Global Learning Activity.

Are you motivated to work with youth on environmental issues? Maybe you even bring along some knowledge in non-formal or environmental education and have some working experience with young people? Then this project could be an interesting fit for you. For this internship, it will be an advantage if you have some communication, IT, language or art skills. The working languages for the project will be English, Romanian and Russian.

The National Center ‘Gutta-Club’ is a non-governmental organization working on a socially and especially environmentally more sustainable Moldavian society. The independent non-profit organization aims at educating active citizens for a new democratic society. Its main priority is to raise awareness on ecological issues among the youth and the facilitation and solving of environmental problems. In recent projects ‘Gutta-Club’ focused on energy security, which is a major issue in Moldavia. The organization provides trainings on renewable energies, especially in rural areas. In this way ‘Gutta-Club’ fosters independency from more traditional energy resources.

As GLEN intern you will work hand in hand with the programme team and other local volunteers. ‘Gutta-Club’ organizes several trainings and a summer school, to which you will also contribute in planning. You will prepare an ample presentation of the given situation and the respective measures in your own country in the fields of adaptation to the effects of climate change and environmental education.

Furthermore, you will assist the team in preparing an additional support for optional environmental education courses at schools. Your knowledge and creativity will be invaluable for the preparation of an interactive and appropriate format in order to teach environmental issues at primary, secondary and higher levels of schools. Ideally, you will draft this pedagogic concept with your team in three languages. At the end of each month, you will prepare an activity report.

The scheduled time period for the internship is three months from July to September 2017.

Trainings and seminars prior to the internship will be held in English.

The GLEN tandem will be formed by a Czech and a German participant.
