Since actually all GEAs are noteworthy, the GEA Awards are more of a nice audiovisual way of finishing the GLEN Multipliers’ Training Cycle…but see for yourself: You can find the winners of the 3 categories here – as well as the other nominated GEAs.
Last year, the GLEN participants decided on 4 categories to which they were then asked to submit photos for the Competition. Find below the categories and the winners. We congratulate the winners once more and thank everybody who took part in the Photo Competition of the Cycle 2011!

Category 1: People in motion/Les gens en mouvement

Miroslava Furjelová - Burkina Faso

Sowing seeds of hope

Women from the village of Kougpéla in Burkina Faso are sowing new varieties of onions during a training. It should help them to better food security and ensure income to their households. Then they can e.g. afford schooling for their children.

Category 2: Emotions

Maarit Cimolonskas - Georgia

I noticed that many Georgians do not like to express their emotions on photos, although they are completely different in real life. I wanted to make a photo with different generations on it (from the left: my host mother Hatuna, my host grandmother Ketino, our family’s little friend Sopiko). It was a beautiful morning, we were laughing and chatting but as soon as I started making the photo, both adults changed their grimasses. I wanted to ask “Why so serious?” and insisted something a little bit joyful. So the other is the outcome! Win!

Category 3: Speed/Vitesse

Maarit Cimolonskas - Georgia

We think we have plenty of time for everything our heart and mind want to do. But at one point we will look back at everything we have done, thinking why time has run so fast. Try everything, live, laugh and you will discover how far you can fly!

Category 4: Connections

Camille Raffier - Benin

The project ”Renew Seminar – Evaluation and Networking” aims at support of active citizenship of former volunteers on local, European and global level through creation of proper place for representatives of six European organizations (from Poland, Latvia, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Hungary, France) to assess the quality and impact of their global education actions and to develop new ideas and partnerships in this field. The participants of the project are volunteers who have experience of staying in the global South and organization of educational and informational activities on global interdependencies.

Between 28 March and 1 April 2012 they will meet in Jedlnia near Radom in Poland, to evaluate their activities, gain skills and inspiration for the next activities and to establish contacts, which will result in projects at European level. All of these aims will be achieved by using non-formal education methods, like simulations, Open Space, discussions in small groups and presentations. The project is an evaluation meeting that will enlarge particular competences of the volunteers, especially entrepreneurship resulting in the creation of a list of good practice and mistakes to be avoided in carrying out projects in the field of global education. Furthermore, the summary of new ideas for cooperation in this field will be prepared and the first stages of planning will be completed.

The long-term outcome of the project will be enhancing the quality of GLEN Network which prepares European youth for global citizenship and to organize citizens’ activities based on this experience in their environment and at the international level.

Project is financed by Youth in Action Programme.

How do the partners in the South see GLEN? What do they like/dislike in the collaboration? What would they like to change? What role do they want to play within the network? Briefly: what is their vision of GLEN?

Finding answers to questions like this was the aim of an internship which took place last summer in Benin. After having visited and spoken to 13 old and recent partners of GLEN all over Benin, Magdalena (Poland), Joseph (Benin) and Judith (Germany) organized a meeting of all these supervisors in Cotounou, Benin. During this day the partners discussed the positive and negative effects of the collaboration with GLEN, searched for solutions and simply shared their experiences. In the end they decided to create a network. The first activity of this network was to make a proposition towards GLEN aiming to improve the collaboration and communication as well as the effects of the programme.

The report of this special internship is downloadable below – in French only!
